Historic Enquiries

Every year the Hero Fund receives enquiries from family members and descendants of Carnegie Heroes.  These can be from people researching their family trees, have discovered a certificate in a relative’s house when they have died or are aware of an award but do not know why.  We also receive enquiries from researchers and local historians who are writing books or articles and blogs.

Whatever your connection to a Carnegie Hero or an incident in which the Trust made recognition we welcome your enquiries.  Please complete the form here giving as much information as possible.  Our records are still all paper-based and it can take time to find the relevant information we would, therefore appreciate your patience while we research your enquiry.  When we do find the specific information we will send you an image of the entry in the Roll of Honour, the citation wording and if possible, an extract from the minutes.

Roll of Honour

Every Hero whom the Trust has recognised since its establishment in 1908 has their name hand inscribed in the Roll of Honour. This is a beautifully illustrated book which contains over 7,000 names and consists of 4 volumes.  The first pages of the Roll of Honour are on display in the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum.  If, however, you would like to see a specific entry please contact the Hero Fund Manager, who is based in our Head Office, at herofund@carnegietrust.com to arrange a suitable time for a private viewing.  Please do not turn up unannounced at Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum and expect to see a specific entry as the museum staff do not have access to all the volumes.

We recently published a booklet telling the Story of the Roll of Honour.

CHT Replacement Certificates

Replacement Certificates

We are able to provide replacement certificates but as the format has changed over the years it would not be an exact replica. There is a charge of £25 per certificate.

If you wish to place an order, please note that we require payment in advance.  The printed certificate will be sent to you in a cardboard tube.
